SWIMRUN JOINS THE TRIATHLON FAMILY

Swimrun is officially part of the triathlon family. Following its inclusion in World Triathlon (October 2025), the sport is now set to join Swedish Triathlon—pending approval from Riksidrottsförbundet (Swedish Sports Confederation). A major milestone for Swimrun 💗

EX founder Nicholas and Martin Forhaug (Husarö Swimrun) have worked alongside Swedish Triathlon for 1.5 years to make this happen, marking a natural next step for the sport’s growth in Sweden.

What this means for Swimrun? Recognition as an organised sport within Riksidrottsförbundet unlocks key opportunities:

  • Official Swedish Championships (SM) across multiple distances, potentially within SM-veckan

  • A Swedish national team (Landslag) for the Swimrun World Championships (2027, TBC)

  • Structured training sessions with financial support for youth athletes

  • Improved insurance and coverage for racers and organisers

  • Stronger collaboration with triathlon clubs across Sweden

What stays the same? Swimrun remains open, inclusive, and true to its roots. Both competitive and recreational racing (tävling & motion) continue as before. Only elite athletes will require a license—introduced from 2027. Like skateboarding and snowboarding, Swimrun stays a sport for everyone.

A dedicated working group will prepare the 2027 season throughout 2026, when the first developments launch. Read more in the Swimrun i Sverige Facebook group.

A big day for Swimrun.

EX SWIMRUN RUNMARÖ 6/6

Join us for the premiere of the EX Swimrun Runmarö adventure on EX co-founder Nicholas’ island. After spending fifty years exploring this gem in the Stockholm Archipelago, we are pretty sure the course will be just as magical as it is warm.

With seven lakes on the island, we can guarantee much warmer swims than on Ötill Utö, and the focus of the day is to celebrate the sport, not to chase or stress over merit points. That is why we will include food and drinks at the local bistro Svängen, where Fredrik and Madde will welcome us with pizza and beer. The race fee is also kept to a minimum, about half the price of Utö, and even fifty percent lower if you are under eighteen. If we want young and new participants in Swimrun, we need to adapt more to them.

Check out the two courses, Short and Long, which will take you across the island, into the sea, and back to the Swimrun love at Svängen. Check it out here.
